October Meeting: Test-driven ActionScript

Friday, October 13th, 2006

This month’s presentation is:

***Test-driven ActionScript***

starring Chris Allen.

From wikipedia:

“…a unit test is a procedure used to validate that a particular module of source code is working properly. The procedure is to write test cases for all functions and methods so that whenever a change causes a regression, it can be quickly identified and fixed.”

Unit testing is a key part of application development in any language, and is fully supported in Flash. Chris will walk us through a simple example of “test-driven development”, creating a small application, fully unit-tested.

This will be almost more of a mini-workshop than a presentation, so feel free to bring your laptops and work along. The examples will be in AS2, so you’ll minimally need Flash MX 2004 or Flash 8, and the unit testing framework, which you can get at http://www.asunit.org/

If you are using the Flash IDE, download and install the testing framework MXP.

If you are using Eclipse, FDT and MTASC as a development environment, download the asunit framework only, and the AS2Ant package: https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=94206&package_id=164902

The meeting is at the NEIA, Brookline Village, (directions at www.bfpug.com).
