BFPUG August Meeting Wrap Up
Thursday, August 24th, 2006Two days before this month’s meeting, we discovered that Ted Patrick, who was going to come out from Adobe to talk about Flex 2, was unable to make it to Boston. Luckily, Joey Lott agreed to take over and do a Flex 2 presentation. Despite having no previous notice, he put together a really nice talk that gave a good overview of what Flex 2 is and walked through step by step on how to make a simple Flex 2 application.
We also got our Flash cookies which were pretty cool, and had a couple of “Happy Birthday Flash” JP Licks ice cream cakes. Unfortunately most people waited til the end of the presentation to get the cake, which by that time turned into a table full of ice cream soup, apparently still pretty tasty though.
I counted close to 50 people there, so it was up there with our highest attendance. It seemed like about one third of the crowd then wound up at Flan OBriens for a couple hours. I have to say that BFPUG is turning into a really awesome group that I am really proud to have helped kick start into life. There are a bunch of regulars that it is really fun to hang out with, and there are always new people showing up and becoming part of the group. There’s a huge amount of networking that goes on, especially for those who go to hang out after the meetings themselves. I know of at least half a dozen full time jobs and freelance projects that people have scored directly through conversations at BFPUG meetings.
Now I’ve got to figure out a new speaker for September!
